Our ambulance services handle emergencies and planned moves alike. The table shows the main types of work our road crews do.
| Type of transport | What it involves |
|---|---|
| Emergency response | A crew sent from the control room to an injured or ill person at home, at work or on the road. |
| Planned transfers | Non-emergency moves booked in advance, such as a patient going home from hospital. |
| Transfers between hospitals | Moving a patient to another hospital for specialist care, with the crew level matched to the patient. |
| Long distances | Longer road journeys, and air ambulance flights where the distance or the patient's needs call for one. |
| Medical repatriation | Bringing patients home to South Africa, or home to another country after treatment here. |

Questions
Call 086 1725 633 from any phone, at any hour. A person answers in our control room, asks where the patient is and what has happened, and sends the crew the call needs.
Call 086 1725 633 and tell our control room where the patient is. We will confirm what we can send and how long it is likely to take, and where a case is beyond what we can reach in time we will say so and point you to the public ambulance service on 10177, or 112 from a mobile.
Yes. We book planned transfers in advance, such as a patient going home from hospital or moving to a care facility. Call or send a WhatsApp with the date, the pick-up and the destination, and we will arrange the crew level the patient needs.
Yes. We transfer patients between hospitals for specialist care, with a crew matched to the patient, up to a doctor on board. We speak to both hospitals before the move so the receiving team is ready when the patient arrives, and the crew hands over the clinical information in person.
Yes. Ralmed is a private emergency medical service licensed by the Department of Health, operating since 2013. Our crews work at basic, intermediate and advanced life support levels, and a doctor can join a call where needed. Company and licence documents are available on request for clients who need them.
Most medical aid schemes cover emergency ambulance transport, and some cover planned transfers when they are authorised first. The rules depend on your scheme and plan, so check with the scheme before a planned move. We give you the invoice and clinical documents your scheme needs to process the claim.
Yes. Before any event, Ralmed carries out a risk assessment in line with South African law, then supplies the mix of doctors, paramedics, first aiders and ambulances the event needs. Tell us the date, venue and expected crowd size through the questionnaire on the event medical cover page, or call 086 1725 633.
Yes. Ralmed flies patients into and out of South Africa by air ambulance, for people travelling here from elsewhere in Africa and for South Africans who need a transfer abroad. A road crew meets the flight and takes the patient on to hospital. Call 086 1725 633 to plan a flight.
Yes. For mines, plants and other remote sites, Ralmed can station a paramedic team and an ambulance on your premises, with a doctor on call if the operation warrants one. The staffing is planned around the site, its shifts and its risks. See the remote ambulance station page or call 086 1725 633.
One number reaches every Ralmed crew, day and night, from basic life support to a doctor on board. A person answers, not a menu, and the control room sends the crew the patient needs. Call 086 1725 633 or send a WhatsApp, and save the number now.
