Learners in their final school year who are thinking about a career in healthcare can apply. If you are under 18, a parent or guardian needs to agree to the application. Tell us in the form which career you are considering, so we can match you to the right area of the work.

Neither. Job shadowing is a chance to watch professionals at work so you can decide what to study before you apply to university. It is not paid employment and does not lead to a qualification. For paid roles, see the Careers page, and for accredited courses, see Medical Training.

The programme covers different areas of healthcare, including nursing, medicine, paramedic work, occupational therapy and physiotherapy. Say which area interests you most when you apply. Seeing the work up close makes it easier to choose what to study and to explain your choice in university applications.

Yes. Every applicant reads and signs a confidentiality agreement before starting, because patient names, procedures and outcomes are never shared with anyone outside the care team. If you are under 18, a parent or guardian also agrees to the application. Ask us if anything in the agreement is unclear before you sign it.

Choosing what to study is easier once you have seen the work up close. Spending time alongside working medical professionals shows you what a day in nursing, medicine, paramedic work, occupational therapy or physiotherapy involves, so you can apply to university with a clearer picture of the career you want.

The professional you shadow decides what is appropriate for you to observe, and you follow their guidance throughout the placement.
